Dr. Gary
Goforth
Dr. Gary Goforth has more than 35 years of experience in water resources engineering, and is a professional engineer registered in Florida.
He earned his doctorate in environmental engineering at the University of Florida in 1986. For the last 30 years, his focus has been on large-scale environmental restoration programs in the Kissimmee-Okeechobee-Everglades ecosystem, including the St. Lucie River and Caloosahatchee Estuaries.
He was with the South Florida Water Management District for almost 20 years, and currently runs his own engineering company. In 2013 his company completed a comprehensive analysis of the flows and nutrient loads entering Lake Okeechobee, the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee Estuaries. This work formed the technical foundation for an enhanced regulatory program for the three watersheds, an effort that was subsequently abandoned by the state, to be replaced by the significantly flawed BMAP process. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Florida Oceanographic Society, the Advisory Board for the Indian Riverkeeper, and spends much of his free time performing pro bono work for protection of the estuaries and Lake Okeechobee water quality.
